Ever wonder why there’s never a tug tractor around when you need one? Because AutoGuide’s tugger vehicles follow a pre-programmed, predictable path, you’ll always know where your AGVs are as they move critical work-in-process, deliver key components lineside on a just-in-time basis, or transport inventory to and from storage.

Features of AutoGuide’s Man-Aboard Tugger AGVs

Built to last for thousands of production cycles running around the clock, AutoGuide’s tugger AGVs tow loads for dozens of Fortune 500 companies across North America. Accurate, efficient and affordable, these low-maintenance, inherently safe vehicles instantly switch from path-based autonomous navigation to manned operation—flexibly accommodating your changing needs.

Robust

Capable of towing loads up to 10,000 pounds, AutoGuide’s tugger AGVs sport an electric hitch that automatically connects to a single cart (or multiples in a train configuration), and hauls at speeds up to 3.8 miles per hour.

Versatile

Switch AutoGuide’s tugger AGVs between autonomous travel and manual driving modes with an operator override function that supports movement and handling needs outside the pre-programmed travel path.

Safe

With a non-contact laser sensor that triggers the vehicle to slow down or stop depending on an obstacle’s proximity, audible warnings that signal the vehicle’s approach and an operator presence detection system, AutoGuide’s tugger AGVs put safety first.

Innovative

Packed with safety features and flexible navigation options, such as magnetic induction and soon natural feature guidance technology, AutoGuide’s tugger AGVs are easy to install, program and modify.

1. What is an average ROI?

Most AutoGuide™ projects have a return on investment of less than 12 months.

2. Can I lease an AGV or AGC?

Yes, leasing options are available for AutoGuide™ products.

3. How are the batteries charged?

The batteries in AutoGuide™ products are typically charged using opportunity charging stations, or they can be charged manually.

4. How much does a man-aboard tugger cost?

Tugger vehicles tow loads up to 10,000 pounds, making them more expensive than low profile vehicles, but still less than most mid-size cars. Tugger system costs vary greatly depending on their size and complexity. For specific pricing information, contact us and a sales engineer will get back to you soon.

5. How does the man-aboard feature work?

An operator simply steps on the yellow safety mat and a sensor switches the vehicle to manual mode, allowing the tugger to be driven off its path. To return to automated mode, an operator uses left and right driver lights to line the vehicle back on its guide path and pushes the automated mode button.

6. What is the Guidance?

Currently, our tuggers are guided by magnetic tape, which is easy to install and modify. In high-traffic areas, protective tape can be placed over the magnetic strip for extra durability. For ultimate endurance, embedded magnetic bar can be used by making a small cut (less than 1/4”) in the floor for the bar, which can be epoxied over.

7. Is it safe for workers?

Our AGVs meet the highest safety standards and feature a CAT 3 laser, which slows down and stops the vehicles if anyone or anything steps in front of it. It is programmable allowing customers to determine the distance for slowing down and stopping. The speed of the vehicle (top speed is 3.8 mph) can also be changed to meet customer specifications. All vehicles include flashing strobe lights and flashing LEDs s, as well an audio device that can play any WAV file and/or verbal directives.

8. Do you provide traffic control software?

Our AVINU® software provides a low-cost, efficient traffic management solution, including automatic dispatch and visual interface/monitoring. AVINU can be purchased for a low, one-time fee – no subscription or recurring fees.

9. Are there industry standards for AGVs?

ANSI/ITSDF B56.5-2012 is the Safety Standard for Driverless, Automatic Guided Industrial Vehicles and Automated Functions of Manned Industrial Vehicles. All AutoGuide™ products meet or exceed these standards.
